Fire officials reported on Sunday that a grass fire that prompted the evacuation of some homes in northwest Edmonton is now under control. The fire was located in the area of Anthony Henday Drive and 127 Street. More than a dozen fire crews responded to the call and spent about three hours working to contain the blaze. According to Rowan Anderson with Edmonton Fire Rescue Services, some of the fire crews were able to leave the scene after the fire was brought under control. Anderson confirmed that homes in the Albany neighbourhood are no longer at risk.

At this time, the cause of the fire is still unknown. Fortunately, no injuries or property damage have been reported.

As the weather becomes warmer and dryer, the risk of wildfires and grass fires increases, especially in areas where vegetation is abundant. Fire officials urge residents to exercise caution when burning yard waste and ensure all fires are properly extinguished before leaving them unattended. In addition, residents are reminded to have an emergency evacuation plan in place in the event of a wildfire or other emergency situation.
