A family-friendly carnival is set to take place at Richmond’s Aberdeen Centre next week to celebrate the birthday of Keung To, a member of the popular Canto-pop boy band Mirror from Hong Kong. The event, called the Keung To 430 Charity Carnival, will be held on April 30 and is organized by Keung Candies, the singer’s fan club in Western Canada. All proceeds from the charity sale, which will feature products such as tote bags with designs by children staying at the BC Children’s Hospital, will be donated to the hospital.

The carnival will feature a range of activities, including balloon twisting, drawing classes, balloon and poster giveaways, as well as a group photo of all Keung Candies. A charity walk was held last year in celebration of Keung’s birthday and raised over $42,000 in donations for the BC Children’s Hospital. This year, the carnival aims to continue to promote charity work and help support the hospital’s needs.

Aimee Yeung, a Richmond resident and spokesperson for Keung Candies, said that Causeway Bay in Hong Kong was chosen as the theme for the carnival because it is where the 23-year-old superstar famously resides. Yeung added that the area becomes a festival during the singer’s birthday month, with outdoor billboards, LED panels, bus stations, tram stations, and even trams themselves featuring his face.

Entry to the carnival is free, and the charity sale is cash and e-transfer only. The event details and a list of items available for sale can be found on the fan club’s Instagram and Facebook. Keung Candies also recently became an incorporated non-profit in B.C., inspired by Keung’s message to help the less fortunate and give back to society.
