Earthquakes are not a common occurrence in eastern Ontario, but on Sunday, residents in the region felt the earth move after an earthquake near the Canada-U.S. border in New York State. According to Earthquakes Canada, a magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck 20 km southwest of Watertown, New York, at 2:10 p.m. on Sunday. The earthquake was felt as far away as Toronto and Niagara Falls, and even in Montreal, according to reports received by Earthquakes Canada.

The U.S. Geological Survey also reported an earthquake in the same region, with a magnitude of 3.6 and an epicenter located 1 km northwest of Adams Center, in Jefferson County, New York. However, both agencies agree that the earthquake struck about 56 km southeast of Kingston, Ontario.

Several people took to social media to share their experience of the earthquake, with some describing feeling the shaking while others mistook it for a big truck driving by their house. Earthquakes Canada initially reported the earthquake as a magnitude 4.6, but later updated the data about 30 minutes later.
