The Orillia Cornhole Club, an affiliate of Cornhole Canada, is hosting its second regional tournament of the 2022-2023 season this Sunday, March 12, at ODAS Park fairgrounds and the top male and female throwers in Canada will be in attendance.
The tournament will run from 9 a.m. until approximately 8 p.m. and entry is free to spectators who want to come watch the fastest-growing sport in Canada.
Glen McNutt and Launa Smith, who are both members of the Orillia club, are currently ranked as the No. 1 throwers in their respective divisions in the Canada Cornhole League (CCL). Glen and Launa have been members of the club since its opening day in June of 2021 and have progressively moved their way up the standings. Launa competed at the 2021-2022 National Canadian Cornhole Championships held in Regina, Sask., in August of 2022 and went undefeated to win the Canadian national women’s singles division.
Midway through the current season, Cornhole Canada just released the mid-year standings of the top 16 elite players in Canada. In the women’s division top 16, Launa is currently in first with Kim Vivian in fifth and Karen Lalonde in sixth, who are also from the Orillia club. In the men’s division top 16, Glen is currently in first, club owner Nick Bornino is in seventh and David Dunlop is in 11th, all from the Orillia club. Of the combined 1,500 registered players in this year’s CCL, Glen is in first and Launa is in 16th.
The Orillia Cornhole Club runs a social league on Tuesday nights, a drop-in league on Wednesday nights and a competitive/advanced league on Thursday nights at ODAS Park.
