A 46-year-old man has died after being struck by a car that was allegedly fleeing police over the weekend. The incident occurred on the evening of April 15th when the victim was crossing the intersection at Richmond Road and Kirkwood Avenue. According to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), an Ottawa police officer had identified the «vehicle of interest» near Shillington Avenue earlier that evening and began to follow the car, along with other officers, in an unmarked vehicle. However, the driver fled and ended up hitting the pedestrian.

The victim was rushed to the hospital and was in intensive care before passing away on Friday morning. The driver was arrested following the crash. The SIU, responsible for investigating cases involving serious injury, death, and allegations of sexual assault by police, has launched an investigation into the incident.

It is currently unknown why the Ottawa police were interested in the vehicle or whether officers were actively pursuing it at the time of the crash. The investigation remains ongoing, and more information is expected to come to light as the case progresses.
