Snapchat’s AI-powered chatbot, My AI, is now available for all users, according to the social media app’s recent announcements at the Snap Partner Summit. The chatbot, which was previously only available for Snapchat+ subscribers, uses OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology to respond to users’ messages with fully AI-generated images.

Snapchat’s team has been exploring the boundaries of how augmented reality experiences are created, and they’ve found that advancements in machine learning have made it possible to create AR experiences quickly, realistically, and with exciting creative possibilities for the app’s community. My AI can now be added to group chats by mentioning it with an @ symbol, and users can customize the look and name of their bot with a custom avatar.

Moreover, My AI can now recommend filters to use in Snapchat’s camera or places to visit from the app’s map location service. Snapchat has added safety guidelines within the app to address concerns about whether AI could plagiarize published works, provide inaccurate information, or return harmful responses to queries. If a user repeatedly asks My AI inappropriate or harmful questions, the app will temporarily restrict the user’s access to the chatbot.

Snapchat’s new photo features aim to make the app feel like “the most personal camera in the world.” With the increasing focus on generative AI in recent months, the app is confident that My AI’s responses adhere to Snapchat’s community guidelines. According to the press release, Snap analyzed conversations with My AI and found that 99.5% of the chatbot’s responses follow the app’s guidelines.

Overall, Snapchat’s latest developments in AI technology show how it is keeping up with the industry’s focus on generative AI and how it aims to provide its users with a more personalized and creative experience.
