A tragic single-vehicle accident has claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl in Southern New Brunswick. According to RCMP, the accident took place on Route 778 in Pennfield on Wednesday, around 6:30 p.m. The driver, a 17-year-old girl from St. George, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital. Unfortunately, the 16-year-old girl, who was the only passenger, died at the scene due to her injuries.

RCMP officers believe that the crash occurred when the vehicle was travelling south and left the roadway, entered the ditch, and collided with a utility pole. The highway leading to Beaver Harbour was closed by the RCMP until midnight.

Sgt. Chris Henderson of the St. George detachment informed the public that an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the girl’s death. Additionally, the Eastern Charlotte Fire Department, Ambulance New Brunswick, and an RCMP collision reconstructionist also attended the scene to provide assistance.

This incident is an unfortunate reminder of how important it is for drivers to exercise caution and drive defensively on the roads. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the young girl who lost her life in this tragic accident.
