These are the top 10 most ordered foods in Vancouver in 2023 so far

Japanese cuisine appears to be a popular pick among Vancouverites when it comes to takeout options.

In honour of National Takeout Day on April 15, food delivery app SkipTheDishes released a list of the top 10 most ordered items in the city and across Canada in 2023 so far, reports CTV.

Miso soup and California rolls are at the top of the list for Vancouver and sushi accounts for two spots on the list, which comes as no surprise as Vancouver was named the most ‘sushi-crazed’ city in the world outside of Japan.

Other popular items include pop, butter chicken, naan, chicken donair, and french fries. 

The list doesn’t waver much from three years ago, when DoorDash revealed a similar list for B.C. in 2020. While that list also included miso soup, California rolls, and butter chicken in the top five, burritos came in first place. Now, burritos are nowhere in sight. 

DoorDash also named numerous Vancouver restaurants in its “Most Loved All Stars” list in 2022.

The top 10 list for Vancouver in 2023:

  1. Miso soup
  2. California roll
  3. (Fountain) pop
  4. Garlic naan
  5. Canned pop
  6. Butter chicken
  7. Naan
  8. Dynamite roll
  9. Chicken pita donair
  10. French fries

The top 10 list for B.C. in 2020: 

  1. Burrito
  2. Butter Chicken
  3. Miso Soup
  4. California Roll
  5. Chicken Tenders/Wings/Nuggets
  6. Spicy Tuna Roll
  7. Tuna Poke Bowl
  8. Chips & Guacamole
  9. Edamame
  10. Teriyaki Chicken

As for the rest of Canada, SkipTheDishes revealed that Indian staples prevail with six items making up the top 10, including butter chicken, naan in plain, garlic, and butter flavours, and tandoori roti. 

Pop also made the list, but not sushi. 

While DoorDash’s nationwide list for 2020 also included butter chicken, it also featured other food items like chicken nuggets, poutine, onion rings, burgers, and, again, burritos in first place.

In 2022, Chinese was the most popular cuisine in Canada. Looks like Canadians’ takeout preferences have drastically changed over three years.
