Canada will continue its quest for back-to-back gold medals when they take on Sweden in Brampton tonight for quarter-final action at the IIHF Women’s World Hockey Championship.
The Canadians won the top spot in Group A after a 4-3 shootout win over the USA in their final round-robin game on Monday. Sweden finished third in Group B, but the squad has obvious goal-scoring power with the top three scorers in the tournament all from Sweden.
The two teams will square off at Brampton’s CAA Centre on Thursday (April 13) as the Canadian women’s team looks to win a fourth consecutive gold medal in the tournament. Canada has a 10-0 all-time record against Sweden at the worlds.
Canada’s long-time rival USA finished second in Group A and will take on Germany at 1:30 p.m. Canada and the US went head-to-head in the 2022 gold medal bout with Canada securing the gold with a 2-1 victory over the United States.
Puck drop for Canada vs. Sweden is at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday with the game available to watch online through TSN or the TSN app.
The City of Brampton is getting in on the World Hockey Championship action with viewing parties held downtown in Garden Square.
The next viewing party will have the semi-final games broadcast in Garden Square on Saturday, with the gold medal game the following day on April 16.
