On Thursday, Air Canada announced it will resume and extend its non-stop service between Edinburgh International Airport (EDI) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) starting on June 2.
Resuming the service to Edinburgh
Starting on June 2, 2023, and flying up to daily during the summer peak, Air Canada will resume its direct flight between Toronto and Edinburgh, in Scotland. After the summer, Air Canada intends to reduce the weekly frequencies to three flights starting on October 30 and maintain it until January 7.
During the winter season, Air Canada will operate the flights from Edinburgh to Toronto on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays and from Toronto to Edinburgh on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
Stephen Gerrard, Air Canada General Manager Sales, UK and Ireland (not to be confused with Liverpool’s legend Steven Gerrard), said in a statement,
“We are pleased to announce the return of our non-stop services from Edinburgh to Toronto. Our newly extended service from Edinburgh will not only provide our customers in Scotland with a direct link to Canada during both the summer and winter seasons but also allow convenient onward travel options across North America. Customers can start planning ahead and book with confidence.”
Meanwhile, Kate Sherry, Chief Commercial Officer at Edinburgh Airport, said that extending this service into the winter months is very exciting, and the airport is pleased to see Air Canada’s confidence in the Edinburgh market through to January.
A Boeing 787 service
Air Canada flights between Toronto and Edinburgh will be operated by Air Canada mainline. The company will employ its state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The widebody jetliner features three cabins of service for customers to choose from, including lie-flat seats in Air Canada Signature Class, premium economy, and economy class.
The Canadian flag carrier operates a fleet of 37 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, including eight 787-8s and 29 787-9s. These have the capacity to carry 255 and 298 passengers, respectively.
According to SeatGuru.com, the Boeing 787-8 has 20 flatbed seats with the company’s Signature Class, 21 recliner seats in premium economy, and 214 economy class. The 787-9 has 30 Signature Class seats, 21 premium economy seats, and 247 economy seats.
