Saskatchewan’s male U16 hockey team, with four members of the Home Hardware Legionnaires on the roster, advanced to the gold medal game at the Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island with a 4-3 win over Team Quebec in the semi-finals on Friday.

Cam and Cobe Perlinger, Parker Rondeau and Berney Weston will be in the lineup as Team Saskatchewan plays for gold at the Canada Games for the first time since 1995. A young Patrick Marleau of Aneroid scored the game-winning goal for Saskatchewan as they defeated Alberta for their first and only gold medal in men’s hockey 28 years ago in Grande Prairie, AB. Incidentally, Marleau will have the same #12 he wore at those games and throughout his hockey career retired by the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night.

Saskatchewan will face Ontario, who beat BC 8-6 in the other semi-final on Friday. The gold medal game is set for 5:30pm CST on Saturday from the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown.
