Canada have moved to within a victory of qualifying for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Peru 2023 after a Sunday night win at the Concacaf Men’s Under-17 Championship. That opportunity will come Wednesday afternoon when Canada faces Puerto Rico in the Concacaf Quarter-Finals at Estadio Doroteo Guamuch Flores in Ciudad Guatemala.
The Wednesday 22 February match will kickoff at 16.00 local (17.00 ET / 14.00 PT). Winners of the four Concacaf Quarter-Finals on 21 and 22 February will qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Peru 2023.
“The boys can come out of tonight really proud of the way they approached the match and how we were so decisive in the early stages”, said Andrew Olivieri, Canada Soccer’s Men’s U-17 Coach. “We suffered through periods, but we never broke. We know we have to be better in moments but grinding out a tough win in any knockout match for Canada is an important achievement. We move on to get ready and keep getting better for the quarter final.”
All of Canada’s matches will be broadcast live on OneSoccer, available as a linear channel on Telus’s Optik TV (Channel 980) as well as online at OneSoccer.ca, through the OneSoccer app and on the fuboTV Canada platform. Fans will find extended coverage for the matches across Canada Soccer’s digital channels on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube featuring the hashtag #canm17.
Canada qualified for the Concacaf Quarter-Finals by beating Haiti 3:0 in the Concacaf Round of 16 while Puerto Rico advanced after winning 4-2 on kicks from the penalty mark following a 1:1 draw with Costa Rica.
At the 2023 Concacaf Men’s Under-17 Championship, Canada started with two wins in three group matches: a 3:2 win over Trinidad and Tobago; a 2:0 win over Barbados; and a 0:1 loss to USA.
